Delaware County Hazardous Waste Disposal

Delaware County sponsors four (4) Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection Events each year.

HOW TO IDENTIFY HHW:

Typically, item labels that contain the words: HAZARDOUS – DANGER – WARNING – POISONOUS and TOXIC, indicate items that contain hazardous material. Typical Items are: Oil-based paint, paint thinner, varnish, kerosene, gasoline, motor oil, antifreeze, weed killers, fungicides, pesticides, items containing mercury, cell phones, rechargeable and lead acid batteries, Ni-cad, lithium, rechargeable and lead batteries.

DISPOSE OF HHW PROPERLY:

Improperly disposed HHW can pollute the groundwater, surface water, and the air we breathe. It can harm children, pets, and sanitation workers. Listed below are ways you can dispose of HHW in a responsible manner.

• Use up old paint by giving your wall another coat, touch up around the room or up the stairs where fingerprints are sure to gather.
• Share any leftover paint with friends, neighbors, and family.
• Take motor oil, antifreeze, and car batteries to a service station that accepts them. A list of Delaware County’s USED MOTOR OIL COLLECTION SITES can be found online under the heading of Automotive Products Recycling Sites
• Most Radio Shacks, Target Stores, Lowes, and Home Depots will take your Ni-Cad, rechargeable and Lithium batteries for recycling.
• CFLs can be recycled at any Lowes or Home Depot.
• Salvation Army at 66 Chester Pike in Darby accepts all working TVs and computers.
