Permanent Program Opens
The Saint Louis County Department of Health is pleased to announce that the first permanent household hazardous waste collection facility is now open. The permanent program is regional and residents from St. Louis County, St. Louis City, and Jefferson County are eligible to participate by making a reservation at Saint Louis Household Hazardous Waste.

Reservations
The site is located at 291 East Hoffmeister (on the grounds of the Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District’s Lemay Waste Water Treatment Plant). Please advise residents to follow the reservation instructions and to print off the voucher that confirms the reservation. Residents should bring the voucher and proof of address to the appointment. Proof of address can be a utility bill or driver’s license. Residents without internet access can call their jurisdiction for assistance in making a reservation:

Costs & Fees
The permanent program replaces the 1 day collection events previously hosted by the Department of Health. For program sustainability, the program has the following cost-sharing measures:

Latex paint is being accepted for recycling, but residents will be required to pay the full cost. That fee is $0.20 per pound ($2.00 for a full gallon). Unlike other household chemical waste, latex paint is not actually hazardous. If completely dried out, latex paint can be safely disposed of with the trash.

For all other eligible household hazardous waste, there is a 50-pound limit.

Residents with more than 50 pounds of household hazardous waste, have the option to bring it in at the time of the appointment, but they will be charged the contracted fee to handle the additional material, which is $1.00 per pound.

Applicable fees can be paid using cash or a credit card. The facility will be accepting American Express, Discover, MasterCard, and Visa. Checks will not be accepted and debit cards will have to be run as credit cards.
