Bloomington approves resolution to organize trash collection

Bloomington Waste Disposal

Garbage and Recycling logo Bloomington has joined the ranks of more than 72 percent of cities nationwide that have implemented organized garbage and recycling services. The program reduces the number of garbage trucks on your collection day, mitigates air and noise pollution, minimizes the wear and tear on the roadways and, in most cases, saves each household money. All residential garbage and recycling collection is coordinated through the City.

Pickup specifics and hauler info

All collection (garbage, recycling, yard waste, bulk items) will occur on the same day. Please have materials out to the curb on your collection day before 7 a.m. All carts should be rolled to the curb or driveway – not placed in the street.

Monday: East city limit to Portland Avenue South

Tuesday: Portland Avenue South to Penn Avenue South

Wednesday: Penn Avenue South to France Avenue South

Thursday: France Avenue South to Normandale Blvd.

Friday: Normandale Boulevard to West city limit

Recycling

Recyling is collected every other week on the same day as garbage.

Bulky and electronic waste

Collection of special bulky items and electronic waste on available on an on-call basis. Refer to the pricing list for details.

Yard waste

Yard waste is a subscription service in the garbage and recycling program. Weather permitting, full-season yard waste collection will run April 15 through November 30.

Pricing

Fees are charged every other month on your utility bill. All taxes and fees are included in the unit pricing listed below.

Small cart (about 35 gallons) = .10 for two months of service

Includes weekly garbage service: .76

Garbage overflow, if needed, per bag: .75

Includes recycling service every other week: .34

Medium cart (about 64 gallons)= .78 for two months of service

Includes weekly garbage service: $26.44

Garbage overflow, if needed, per bag: $4.75

Includes recycling service every other week: $11.34

Large cart (about 95 gallons) = $44.44 for two months of service

Includes weekly garbage service: $33.10

Weekly garbage service derived from final 2016 Hennepin County Tipping Fee at $55/ton (approved by Hennepin County Board of Commissioners on December 1, 2015). Trash has an 18.75% charge for state tax and county fee.

Recycling rate remains the same for all cart sizes from the Hauler Bid Proposal. Recycling cart standard size is either a medium at 64 gallons or large at 95 gallons. The hauler will confirm your recycling cart size.

Bulky waste fees

Small items, no freon (less than 50 pounds) = $30 per item
Examples: Small furniture, lawn furniture, lawn mower, ottoman, small chair, bookcase, small table, small desk, wooden chair, end table, etc.

Small items with freon (less than 50 pounds) = $30 per item plus tax
Example: Dehumidifier.

Large appliances, no freon (more than 50 pounds, more than 50% metal) = $50 per item
Examples: Stove, snow blower, hide-a-bed, etc.

Large appliances with freon (more than 50 pounds, more than 50% metal) = $50 per item plus tax
Examples: Refrigerator, freezer.

Large furniture (more than 50 pounds, less than 50% metal) = $50 per item
Examples: Sofa, love seat, mattress, box-spring, reclining chair, wooden picnic table, etc.
