Wakefield Waste Disposal
All bags/containers must be curbside by 7:00 AM. All leaves and grass must be placed in biodegradable paper bags or barrels and all branches must be tied in bundles (no larger than 3 feet by 18 inches) and tied securely at both ends. No plastic bags will be accepted.
Any branches larger than 3 ft in length and 18 inches in diameter WILL NOT be picked up.

Recycling Emergency Avoided by DPW Staff
New Recycling Contractor Starts
The DPW wants to welcome our new Recycling Contractor, JRM Hauling and Recycling. JRM began picking up recyclables on Thursday, September 1st, 2016.
As you may or may not know, the Towns previous Recycling Contractor, Hiltz Disposal, was scheduled to cease operations in nine (9) communities on September 30, 2016. In preparation of Hiltz Disposal ceasing operations, the Town entered into a contract with JRM Hauling and Recycling on August 24, 2016. The contract provided for JRM to begin operations on October 3rd, 2016.
On Wednesday, August 31, 2016, at approximately mid-day, the DPW was informed by Hiltz Disposal that they would cease operations the next day, September 1, 2016. Further, Hiltz Disposal did not show up on August 31, 2016 and did not notify the DPW regarding the no-show of August 31, 2016 until additional calls had been made by the DPW.
The DPW immediately implemented an emergency operations plan that provided for Recycling Collection by Town forces on Wednesday, August 31, 2016. Additionally, we contacted our new contractor JRM Hauling and Recycling to inquire about providing disposal services for the material collected on August 31st and about starting the contract on September 1st instead of the scheduled date of October 3rd, 2016. JRM informed DPW that they would arrange for the necessary truck and labor and would begin operations on September 1st, 2016.
As a result of the tremendous commitment of DPW staff to the community and the support of our new contractor JRM Hauling and Recycling we were able to continue full recycling operations and did not impact the residents of the community.
Because of the emergency start by our new contractor JRM Hauling and Recycling, they have not had an opportunity to learn the DPW’s ten (10) recycling routes and as a result there may be a few blips during the month of September. We ask for your patience and assistance during this time. As the contractor learns the route they may be slower than the previous contractor or be following the route in a different order. Should your recycling not be picked up by 3:00 pm, please contact the DPW at (781) 246-6301, ext. 4120 and the DPW Administrative staff will assist you with any issues you may have.
The DPW wants to thank JRM Hauling and Recycling for their quick response in assisting the Town during this emergency situation. Their assistance and support allowed the DPW to meet all Town wide residential and Town facility recycling obligations.
Further, I especially want to thank my DPW staff for their tremendous support and assistance during this difficult situation. They are truly committed to insuring a safe community and providing the very best service to the Town.
