Ann Arbor Waste Disposal
Onsite - How it works
When first arriving onsite, stop at the gatehouse to have your materials assessed and pay the appropriate fee. The gatehouse staff will give you instruction as to where your items should be placed. Often you are required to visit several different areas and receptacles. The Drop-Off Station has a predominately one-way traffic flow.
The indoor "Barn" area is predominately for household recycling items, the outdoor "Hill" area has containers for landfill waste, yard waste, metal, tires and concrete. Please listen carefully to the instructions given by gatehouse staff and refer to the map if needed.
Loading your vehicle to save time and money
Clearly separating recyclable materials from general waste before arriving at the Drop-Off Station will help save money and time. Separate your yard waste, electronics, trash, metal products, cardboard, paper, and general recyclables into different areas of your vehicle.
This is particularly important if you are clearing out a home or basement, or have rented a large truck you intend to fill. Following this guidance will enable the gatehouse to correctly assess your materials, and you will be able to unload quickly, and avoid congestion onsite.
Further separation of material in advance is encouraged whenever possible, keeping newspapers, magazines, boxboard (e.g. cereal boxes), and books separate from your other paper recycling will result in quick offloading and exiting from the building.
